So, I'm looking to squander birthday cash.
Is NeverWinter Nights worth buying? The reviews are so opinionated and random, I'm not sure whether or not to spend the money and buy it.
I heard of this title -- what's this about -- D&D?

I'll put in a word towards the game. I own it, and I love it. Fans of D&D will get alot out of this game, I feel. It's almost an exact clone. The same classes, class system it seems. It has alot. Also, the multiplayer aspect of the game is very diverse, allowing for all manner of custom D&D styled runs online. Check out:

It has alot of resources there to look through, and I am sure will give a more detailed run down. I will say this, don't judge the quality of the game from the cinematic you can download. It does it NO justice, whatsoever. And remember, it is Atari. When have they failed us before?

Well Thorne if you say buy it then it must be good -- but I'm still not sure. How is the mutli-player functionality?

it's much like a lot of other multiplaying games... you need a server and players to connect in (duh!)...
and, if you still haven't bought it, I strongly recommend you to... D&D3rd E is the best thing since instant noodle!!!

I love the DMing tool. It took me a while to get to grips with at first, but once you get going it's the best thing about the game.

I think Neverwinter Nights is definitely worth buying.
It has a good storyline and it follows 3rd Edition D&D rules by the book. Fighting monsters is rather repetetive, but not so much that it takes away from the overall quality of game play.
There's a huge variety of weapons, armors, and spells to use, and weapons and items that you can create.
After you play through the single player story and have a handle on the game you can make your own campaign modules, download modules that others have made, and play multiplayer with your buds.
Graphics are great, so you should probably have a rather high-end machine to play on.
