Hardcore

i was told that if you play on "hardcore" your character got deleted when you it dies and other people can pic up your items and stuff. can somebody tell me how to play like this

It's quite simple: Don't get killed.

That's the whole drive in Hardcore characters, the risk of getting killed, that you actually lose more than just few pennies and some exp like you do lose when your normal char is killed.

i heard that your chance for better is greatly raised when you play hardcore because its harder to survive but if you have the right potions and enough srcolls of town portal its easy to live

OK. I play Hardcore ONLY. Hardcore is basically softcore but you only have 1 chance to live. When you do ur avatar appears in a black robe and you cant make or join games. People play hardcore because it has a more balance economy because people lose godly gear, dueling is fun because u end peoples lives, and also the ladder isnt flooded with 99's

question, i just got Diablo 2 today, is Hardcore only on the expan? if not, how can i acsess it?

Now, if I recall correctly, you have to finish the game once with a normal character before you can even make a hardcore character.

That's a big if though.

thats not exactly true, once you beat normal mode in normal non-harcore (softcore) then you can create as many hardcore chars as your acc can hold. you do not have to continually beat it in softcore.

Well I know I haven't beaten the game at all on my main account but I can create a Hardcore Character right now if I wanted to, it gives me the option to make the character I'm creating into a hardcore one.
