I see that I am the first to post in this forum, and LARP is the COOLEST type of roleplaying. So I am going to post my LARP character.

Name: Saryyn Alondrowien Mayyn
Race: Elf
Class: Priest of Talos
Weapons: Enchanted Long Sword, Enchanted Sai (2)
Abilities: Talostic Charm (Talos grants Saryyn with a Talostic Charming ability for "seducing" foes.

That is my LARP character......and I encourage you to Post yours if you have one.

True Courage

You're not the first... you're just the first to post in here in a long time. As for me? Yeah, I do a bit of LARPing here and there. I play two characters in the fantasy one me and my buddies play and I've LARPed as Jill Valentine from the RE series.

Here's the stats for my two Mages, one with black magic and one with white magic.

First one:
Name: Marina LeCavalier
Race: Human half Deity
Class: Dark Mage, follows no particular deity (considering how she's half of one, she usually has her own reason's for joining my friends' party, which is often to take down the Dark Deity, once this is over, Marina usually fills in the then deceased deity's spot. The World's safe... until another of her line comes to take her down, its a repeating circle, dying and being reborn and all that.)
Weapons: Tempered Oak Mage's staff, small sacrificer's knife.
Abilities: Taint of Wind (Healing), Shadow Fire, Gift of Blood (Blood magic, takes HP and turns into an elemental attack.)

Second one:

Name: Elena Carnier
Race: Human
Class: White Mage, follower of Paladine (usually is used in a Dragonlance LARP)
Weapons: Plain oak staff, hammer, small sacrificer's knife. (Yes, nearly all my mage's have the knife)
Abilities: Healing and curative magic.

AWESOME!!

Here is another character of mine

Name: Carthalis Dominiqe
Race: Human
Class: Skilled Assassin (By skilled i mean he has killed many guildmasters, scoceresses, scorcerers, nobles, and other people of power)
Weapons: Poisonous Dagger, Short Sword, and Sai (2) [i ACTUALLY have 2 Sai's they are AWESOME...and you could say that i am proficient with them as well]
Abilities: Hide in shadows, Improved Way-lay, (He can way-lay even if they know im there....to SOME extent) and Feign Death.

Salvaron

Um, hey im new here. Im really just looking to make friends, so shoot me a PM if you want. Thanks.

True Courage
08-19-2003, 09:49 PM
Yup, LARPing is fun. Provided your friends don't want your Dark Mage character to learn "The Curse of Gender Change." so that they can ask you to use it on the most oafish member of the party. -.-;; I also wanna get better at putting together LARP costumes. I wanna make one for Marina, using an actual Velvet cloak and everything.

Salvaron
08-19-2003, 09:53 PM
Oh, that sounds cool. Say, where did you get that cool avatar? And how did you fit it in. i keep getting an error that says its too big.

Saryyn Mayyn
08-19-2003, 11:14 PM
TC.....pm me and we can talk about costume making and other Larp aspects

and Salvaron.....do you LARP?

True Courage
08-21-2003, 12:54 PM
Certainly... but I don't see why we can't just talk about'em in here. *laughs* I was thinking that I'd get my Black Mage costume made this year, as a present for my 18th birthday. The staff should be easy, I can make that myself.

Saryyn Mayyn
08-22-2003, 04:55 PM
Yeah, it SHOULD be easy to make. Well sure we can talk about it here. -laughs too- I made a really AWESOME axe and a masamuné (the kind of sword sephorith weilds) and a make-shift Buster Sword...but it broke.

Baal Luhr
08-22-2003, 05:33 PM
Nah, Masamune IS the sword that Sephiroth weilds, not the type of sword. The type would have to be a Plain old Katana.

No, I don't larp. I don't see the satisfaction of doing it. And, it usually comes off as extremely cheezy when a bunch of fat guys whom are all infatuated with Star Trek and the like start playing a dungeons and dragons-esque LARP in the local park, using sticks as weapons and having nothing that you could really call a costume. You know what I mean?

Evil_Buu
08-22-2003, 07:58 PM
Then they have to call their moms to pick them up or something like that baal, lol. I've actually seen a few good people "Larp" though (Yes, all three of you in my Lunch C during school). Its really something to watch, no im serious.

At least they're getting outside right?

True Courage
08-23-2003, 11:41 AM
True, there are the over-weight fanboys that do LARP, but just cause they make the stereotype doesn't mean I'm like that, neither are my buddies. So don't lump all people who LARP into the fat fanboy stereotype, Baal.

Saryyn Mayyn
08-24-2003, 10:59 PM
Yeah...I dont fit the "Plump-Stereotype" either.
And some costumes are EXTREMELY elaborate......people go so far as to ACTUALLY CARVE ELVEN RUNES on an entire curiass to indicate that it is a magical item.......and SOME weapons look REAL!!

Mordrid
08-25-2003, 01:37 AM
Baal, I have LARPed Vampire the Masquerade for nearly a decade now. I am not a fan boy nor am I plump. I am also not a kid either. It is a wonderful way of roleplaying. Its a living play. We dont make fun of actors do we?

Saryyn Mayyn
08-29-2003, 11:05 PM
Awesome Mordrid.......can you post your character?

Mordrid
08-30-2003, 04:04 AM
Saryyn, I got 33 characters. They are all Vampire characters, not some off the wall fantasy crap like half deity.

Saryyn Mayyn
08-30-2003, 01:28 PM
Just gimme one?......I told all my characters...i think

Well, you dont have to if you don't want to.

Artimis Re'Ar

Ive never actually LARPed before, but i have done some acting. I was part of a Ren. Re-inactment group *Or so we were classified* called AptGard. Using mainly boffer weapons and the like. We did have some people when we would go to big events that would LARP. These events could have anywhere from 50 to 300 hundred people at times. The LARP was pretty kewl, the rules a bit difficult and what not on how the battles would be played out but it was kewl nonetheless. And there was the before and after battle scenes as well with the characters playing themselves and kings and princess and what not. I was not part of it long enough and did have the time to dedicate to it like i wanted. Only had time for the sword fighting aspect of it. I think LARP is a great way to roleplay, especially if your a fan of WhiteWolf and DnD table top roleplaying.

Oh, and as for that sterotype, i dont think its that way much anymore as most of us now let our wierd sides come out and pretty much do what we want. I know myself when i go home on leave will be heading out to an even and probly LARPing while im there. Did i mention im a US Marine? Yeah, not everyone falls into that sterotype and i think that in todays world its pretty ludicris and childish to assume we all fall under that category.

BTW, i love the WOD! Im a big fan of Vampire and Hunter. Havent played them as much as i would like as being in the Corps you moved around a lot and you lose your group after awhile. Ive played Vamp though and we did a little bit of LARP when we did the indoctrination when my Sire *Played by a friend of mine* took me to Elysium to be accepted into the court. We had about 8 people in that game and the DM who is also a sword fighter, although he fenses *not to much repsect for fencers....but thats a different topic* had me do a test of steel where me and him basically walked through a sword fight. It was pretty kewl actually getting into the character and acting it out instead of explaining all of it. Made the game go that much smoother. Then again, all of us in the group liked to use our hands when explaining what we were doing so i guess LARPing would come as only natural aye? Ok, im going to shut my suck now and roll....im out....

I take some offence (not much) at the you guys slagging off larp, i have benn larp (mind eye) for many years and have been playing full contact live action for about three now.
i can tell you that some near 2000 people stood in two battle lines facing off against each other is niether sad or pathetic but awe inspiring.
nearly everybody there has put hours of time and effort or many pennies into there characters kit.
i dont deny 80% are male and many are overwieght butwhen they face off aginst you in a battle line dressed in real chain mail, with tower shield the size of you and bloody big sword you dont care because it is
so fun.

if you want to try larp (full contact) get some mates and check out an event, if you dont enjoy it its a shame but most people who are willing to try it love it.

i could rant on much more but nobdy wants to hear that so i will leave it there.

Well, I have been considering trying something like that out, it seems interesting, and fun at the same time. Personally if I ever LARP...I'm going to have to stop in at the mall behind me first (House of Knives = katans, broad swords, long swords, and daggers for some reason...) and pick something up, heh. Just a question though: is it just the fact that you can do stuff like that that makes it fun? Or is there something else to it?

I pretty much figured out that LARPing is RPing in real life, but where the heck do you find people to do this? I'm pretty young and I haven't told anyone at all about Roleplaying, coughcoughPREJUDICE AMONG STUDENTScough

I'll probably wait for a few years, but I definitely need to find out about this.

Damselian
10-15-2003, 06:38 AM
Yes..I want to try LARP as well but I don't quite trust the people I go to school with. My brother and a few friends of mine thought RPing was stupid, so I doubt everyone else would find it quite as enjoyable as me. I live in the Central New Jersey area in case you were wondering or know any events around here. I am also 15 years old eheh.

Ah...and here comes the LARP Goddess/Geek herself. Why have I granted myself this title? Many reasons. I currently play 2 LARPs on a regular basis and run another.

www.nerolarp.com ~ International Game. Medieval/Fantasy. 35-40 Chapters in the US and Canada.

www.angelfire.com/rpg2/thedreaming ~ Tales of the Dreaming. A 24/7 game run on our campus here at SUNY Purchase. Loosely based on the concepts of Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

www.angelfire.com/rpg2/thelastage ~ Heres the one I'm on staff for. Its also run on campus, but in an event-based format. Medieval/Fantasy, too.

Here is my NERO character:

Name: Kazake Sadako
Race: Dark Elf/Drae/Vornae/Drow...whatever you wish to call it.
Age: 180 years, which translates into young adult in terms of human age.
Class: Earth Templar. Now, you're going to be confused...but to put it simply, this means she can cast Earth(or Chaos) magic and use weapons.
Skills: 6-pyramid in Earth/Chaos magic, one-handed edged weapon use, resist poison, resist charm, healing arts, one weapon proficiency.
Weapon: One-handed longsword, swings for a puny "3 normal." Large shield.

This character is only a level 8...not much to her yet, but she'll get up there. :)

Tales of the Dreaming:

Name: Jade
Race: Lost Soul
Age: Early 20's
Class/Path: Lost Souls get two primary paths in our game, so I made Jade a Rogue and Sorceror. The ultimate player-killing combination!
Skills: Dagger Blocking/Dagger Use, Item Lock, Fear, Sleep, Target(allows for one packet-delivered spell to be undodgeable), Backstab(adds +3 damage to shots delivered from behind)
Weapons: One good ol' basic dagger...which is actually shaped like a knife.

To Damio--

Have you ever had any luck playing a hunter in a massive WW LARP?

I played a hunter several times, usually being the only hunter in the game, and I was constantly ignored by nearly every other PC. Ever had problems like this? Think it was just poor story telling, or is it just hard to keep a hunter going in a game dominated by vamps and garou?

And to you Garnet, how is Nero? They just started a new chapter where I live, and I was thinking about joining. How is the system, compared (if you even can compare it) to White Wolf?

Princess_Garnet
10-20-2003, 09:06 PM
NERO is really, really REALLY good! You should definitely consider joining up.

What chapter/where do you live?

There is no comparison to White Wolf lol

Valiente

Just thought I'd ask, LOL.

I'm in Orlando, FL. Not sure the actual name of the chapter, though.

ive hear of larping from a friend at camp. i havent had a chance to try it yet. do you guys know where i could get any specific rules or anything for it?

Valiente
10-25-2003, 08:22 PM
It really depends on the game, SanK. WhiteWolf games has a series of books (Mind's Eye Theatre, I believe) that detail the specific rules for LARPing the specific WW games, like Vampire or Werewolf. There are other groups too, like Nero, that have their own unique gaming and rules system. Garnet could probably tell you where to look in regards to Nero, but you can usually find, if not order the WW books from your local game or book store.

Somebody said something about "boff." Are you talking about boffer combat? All three LARPs that I'm either a PC or staff member in are boffer combat games. :skidude2:

Valiente
11-03-2003, 03:52 PM
Heheh...Boffer....I much prefer SCAdian style combat. ^_~

As to the question of MET LARPers...I quit playing when WW decided they didn't know when to stop putting out crappy games. I very much like Mage and Hunter, but V:TM, V:DA, and Werewolf (and all varients thereof) no longer hold any interest to me. WW just didn't know when to stop, in my personal opinion.

And most of the LARP groups in my area won't let me play a hunter or inquisitor anyways, which is the only thing I ever enjoying playing in a LARP setting for WW. *Shrug* Maybe I'm just bitter because I've not been exposed to any decent LARP groups.

Princess_Garnet
11-03-2003, 08:47 PM
Well, if you can find a LARP that offers actual combat, good. All of the major ones don't do it for obvious reasons. Until then, boffer combat it is. Actually, NERO is switching over to foam latex weapons that look just like real weapons. That will really help out, in my opinion and make us feel just a little less geeky :)

Here's a link to the NERO page, just for the hell of it. www.nerolarp.com

Check it out Valiente. Its SO much better than Vampire, Werewolf and all other world of destruction games. Those should have stayed tabletop... The NERO style of gaming is ****ing awesome.

WoD LARPing is great PG. I have tried Nero, not really my style of LARPing.

Princess_Garnet
11-05-2003, 05:22 PM
I've played WoD LARPs before and they're just not my thing....

Which NERO chapter did you play at, Mordrid?

Isis.
11-06-2003, 05:16 AM
< Went to the NERO site and looked at all the photos~

That sucks! Why don't we have any of those here? (Lives in Australia) Snot fair~~

Whem you play em, is there like a fee and do you have to sign up and stuff?

:angel:betsy*

Princess_Garnet
11-06-2003, 03:53 PM
Yes, there is a fee for NERO. Depending on chapter, the prices vary. However, its typically about $60 for a three day event.

Valiente
11-06-2003, 07:07 PM
Hey Bets!

I know that the SCA has a chapter where you are. You might want to check that out. Not LARPing like Nero or WoD, but it is still in a sense role-playing, what with making up a persona and all.

PM me if you want more details. ^_^

Princess_Garnet

I know all about SCA, but thank you anyway :)

I don't see anything wrong with LARP exccept that a bunch of older men and early teen girls get together and the guys tend to spend more time trying to make a real life hook up in character than actually LARP. That's a little pervo to me...and illegal in many cases (jailbait). I tried Vampire: The Masquerade LARP, but it was all about guys who still live with mom in their twenties and thirties trying to nail thirteen year olds using the 'Dark Embrace'. Kinda turned me off to the whole thing.

Mordrid
11-08-2003, 12:20 PM
Flambeaux, what you are noting is the exception, not the rule. Most are not out to get laid. Most are not out to find a date. I have been LARPing since the early 90s. Only twice have I run across people who LARP for pervese reasons.

Valiente
11-08-2003, 03:18 PM
Unfortunately, that does happen a lot with V:TM, from the groups I have seen and participated in. Even though I'm over 18, I wouldn't go to one without my BF...and even that hint didn't seem to sink in with half the guys there.

There are some good WoD LARPs out there--basically, the ones that are well organized with enough STs to make the game run smoothly. I had a friend online a few years ago that used to play in the Baltimore area, and I asked him about the same problem, and he told me that his game never had that problem 'cause anyone trying that would have been beaten to a bloody pulp. *Shrug* Maybe his group was an exception, or maybe he was just a liar...either way, it gives me a little hope that not all of the groups suck.

And Miss Garnet-- =)

That info was mostly for Psylocke. I've found that most people that participate in Nero are indeed familiar with SCAdians, if not SCAdians themselves, heheh.

Princess_Garnet
11-08-2003, 08:57 PM
I just don't like the gameplay of WoD LARPs. In my mindset, you should never have to get a marshall for combat, and then roll dice. The NERO system is so much better - real, actual combat(granted, its with boffer weapons, but hey...what can you do?). It just feels more real when you can just start swinging.

Flambeaux
11-08-2003, 10:00 PM
I'd like to think that there are some good LARP groups out there. I just haoppened to run into the one at the U of O and had a bad impression. Thanx Valiente for your input. I may just stay to good ol' dice and paper systems, and of course RPGC.

Mordrid
11-09-2003, 12:17 AM
WOD LARPs do not use dice Garnett, at least not the ones that are ran correctly.

Valiente
11-09-2003, 03:49 AM
The group where I am now (UCF in Orlando, FL) actually used a combination of dice and LARP rules for their WoD LARP...it worked out for a while, but then the group got too big and it became too difficult to keep up with. From what I was told, all the players enjoyed the dice/LARP system much more than the regular LARP style.

I have to agree that I think tabletop WW is much better than LARP, but I'm bitter towards the whole system, LoL.

Jhon Black
11-10-2003, 06:53 AM
Hmm well I know one group that use dice but most groups here use Rock/ Paper /Siccors to keep the speed in the game..aka using the Mind's Eye Theatre system..

I play a LARP called Amtgard (http://amtgard.com:8080). It basically involves us actually fighting with foam weapons. There are no stats or anything (other than levels), but there is a magic system. It is a whole lot of fun. Does anyone else play?

I played AMTGARD. It was another Eugene organization. Good way to get out some agression. Boffer weapons are fun. Very little honor in the field though, except a Knight Templar named Christian.

Eldarin
11-13-2003, 01:56 PM
Well, I was once invited to Amtgard, here in eugene oregon, but it kind of fell apart. From most of the stories my hardcore boffing friends told me though, the Iron keep (The name of the orginazation for amtgard here) was really messed up, Pedophile knights, Completely unloyal minions, it was just a big mess. It didnt help that at the time I was going to join, one house controlled the entire system. After I was nearly introduced to this, i was let into maces and magic, its basically amtgard, but more of a fantasy world. Instead of being stuck with Human only as you race you can play quite a few other things, Orcs, elves, dwarves (yes you have to squat whebnyou are playing a dwarf) Gnomes (Kneepads recomended) and a few other races. The system actually works on hp, instead of one hit your out unless you got armor system that many of the boffing systems ive seen or heard of use. The math is simple, but it makes a fight a little harder when someone hits you and you have to figure out how many hp you have left, even if it is a simple equation. I think this is the site if anyone wants to check it out, theres only one chapter at the moment, the system is less than 5 years old. But hopefully it will grow

Oh yeah, the site may be messed up a little considering the webmaster hasnt done jack in awile... Or so it seems, but it should at least have a rulebook for download, even if it is kinda old.
