Yeah I'm discussing jedi rank with my friend and we need a 3rd party response... I say the ranks go: Padawan, Knight, Master... He says: Padawan, Apprentice, Knight, Master... Isn't Padawan & Apprentice = same!? Someone reply plz...

No, Apprentice is while you're still being taught by a jedi master. Apprentice, Padawan, Knight, Master. You take someone on as your apprentice and then they become a padawan once they've advanced far enough along, most of the time after they've completed the jedi trials, but in the newer movies Qui-Gon is always calling Obi-Wan a padawan eventhough he's still an apprentice. I don't know. I might be wrong.

I agree with Eclisis, it's Apprentice. Padawan, Knight then Master :) (mesa thinks that thread creator hasn't played KOTOR...)

KOTOR was a horrible representation of the Jedi Order. Though I know its Padawan Knight Master, there is no apprentice. Notice Yoda even says "very good young padawan." to that little kid. Apprentice is used in the darker side. you have Dark Jedi Apprentice, Dark Jedi Knight, Dark Jedi Master, Sith Apprentice, Sith Lord.

No from what i know it is apprentice_padawan_knight_master_(and if you are a sith i think it is Sith overlord) anyway apprentice is when you are begining then padawan is when you start going on you own but still have a master then so forth but i aint a total starwars dude so someone els might know more than me which is most likely_but that is what i know(sorry i my keybored is messing up and i cant use periods or commas and so forth_ i think the shift got stuck down or soemthing)

ok so here is how the jedi command structure seems to go
Apprentice: Just learning how to properly control their force powers and are learning under a jedi knight or master. Most apprentice situations I have seen all take place entirely within the respective jedi academy so I would assume that the apprentice mostly studies, meditates and learns basics from their teacher. Apprentices are frequently very young as the jedi order greatly prefers to train a jedi from childhood.
Padawan: Has learned the basics of the force, still trains under a knight or master but now travels with them to gain "field" experience. This and the knight rank are the definite For a good example of padawans the majority of focus jedi characters in the movies have been shown as padawans or something close such as Obi-Wan, Aniken & Luke. In addition if a jedi is going to go to the dark side, this is about the time when you can see signs of it.
Knight: Has passed the jedi trials(if any one could enlighten me as to what the hell those are exactly please pm me) and has a firm understanding of the powers of the force, no longer serves under a specific master or knight but does accept orders from the Jedi council in addition to the ability to take on a Apprentice of his/her own. Many Jedi do not make it past this stage in their life time.
Master: The highest rank of the Jedi order, masters have almost just that "mastered" the force. These jedi are encouraged to take on a apprentice to pass on their great wealth of knowledge. In one of the ages when the Jedi order was in control masters could be seen teaching entire classes of young apprentices or as the members of the Jedi council.
The Sith being hunted by the Jedi and republic whenever they manage to get powerful enough to be a nuisance has prevented them from establishing something like a order so they have not been able to get a real ranking system. The closest thing is the rank of apprentice and master. Eventually when the apprentice surpasses the master they will kill him/her and take on a apprentice of their own.
Well I hope that answers your question.
