Diablo 1 question

Hello,

I'm just getting into Diablo and am starting with the first one, with the Hellfire expansion, playing in Hellfire. A friend told me that you should get a patch, but when I went to Blizzard's site and tried to get one, it kept saying error, blah blah blah. I don't plan on using any trainers or anything, so should I get a patch and if so why?

Firstly, patches fix errors, bugs and mistakes in the game. That's reason enough to get a patch whenever it's possible for any games and applications.

Secondly, if you intend to play Diablo online, you will need to have the same version as the others have. Thus, newest patch is required for online gaming.
