That's a matter of opinion. I doubt your opinion will make much impact on people if you fail to offer reasons why, as well.

I own over 40 different role-playing systems, of varying genres, and I have to name Shadowrun as one of the best. While it has somewhat complex game mechanics, the character generation system is nice and detailed, and the cyberpunk-meets-magic setting is original and great fun to work with.

I also find it refreshing to play a game that places the players in the role of criminals (who are considered criminals for varying reasons) struggling to earn a living, as opposed to the untarnished 'heroes' of the setting.

So I'd say it was definitely worth buying, for folk who like the genre.

Yeah..But you need money to get that operation..and that is just one of the bad things about it..

Are you saying there is some sort of Role-Playing game out there that doesn't require money!! As far as I can tell, Shadowrun is one of the few games that actually puts ALL of the information needed to play the game in one 30 dollar book. Unlike the undisputed "king" which costs 60 for the same information. Anyway, why in the hell would you post this to a forum dedicated to Shadowrun!!? Did you think you would get responces like "yeah, lets stop playing this just cause he said it sucks. Ayuk!!"
Please do list the many other flaws you have detected in this game so we can all benefit from your obvious wisdom.

I must Agree with Azra on the refreshing play-ability of Shadorun. I started playing the game when it first came out. And with a Game master who was far from impartial. That might have turned me sour on the game, but for some reason I hung in there. Of all the RPG I have played, I also rank Shadowrun among the top 3.

I have yet to play, although I've read the Brief History of Shadowrun... all 20 pages of it. And my beloved cousin in Malaysia's getting me the PS1 RPG. Anyway, I'm hooked already... deck or die ^_^

>>>>>Well aren't you glad I stopped by, eh chummers? Okay, so you need SR gear, hit Amazon.com (http://www.Amazon.com) and look up Shadowrun. I'd suggest Third edition.

If you can't get the nuyen to get your gear hit Blackjack's (http://blackjack.dumpshock.com) for your 'running needs. Now Blackjack will hook you up with all the needed basics (accept the actual rules) to play but his sight is dedicated to playing his way so the character creation provided is modified to his taste, same with gear and other information. Good thing? He gives a TON of good SR oriented player and GM tips to get you roleplaying needs. He also has a plethura of content and his own Philedelphia source book he's compiled from his own games. Plus the guy's funny.

As to the entire fact that SR sucks, well, I have to agree AND disagree. First of all SR is an original concept, with well detailed history and design (Kudos to Chalic and Azara). The major downside is that Shadowrun uses its mechanics for a crutch way to often (That's where Blackjack's house rules come in).

The basic roll is simple. You roll as many six sided dice as the character has in a given skill. Each die has to reach a certain target number to count as a 'success'. The more successes the better the roll. Problem? Nowhere does Vehicle Combat use this system. Instead they came up with a completely new drekked up addition/subtraction system using the character Drive skill where you spend time calculating point loss and initiative rounds inside other initiative rounds, extremely painful stuff. My suggestion? Pay the $30 for Shadowrun 3rd edition; use all the gear and information provided for up-to-date setting information, and keep the mechanics basic as possible. In my experience Shadowrun's genre is suited for a cynematic style with bullets flying, car chases, and on the edge of your seet Decking (Hacking) scenes of Matrix cat and mouse. The faster your rolls go the more you'll get from the game itself.

Of course this is only a personal view and I'm not too well known on these forums yet ;). Don't worry, it'll change soonm, wuahahahaha! G'luck chummers and I'll see you on the grid next time.<<<<<

Just a quick note here, I have played Shadow Run, and I have a couple of different characters, and I have to agree, it is definately a good system to play. You just have to get used to the differences. BTW, was also wondering if I could possibly join in the game as well?
