In the year 2060 the World is forever changed, for the previous decades humanity denied the existance of the natural arcane powers that flow accross this plane. The time eventually came when this dormant energy burst forth, when the magic in the World finnally...

AWAKENED

The world Governments did they're best to control their sovereignity as the whole universe seemed to go mad. Ancient cultures long smothered by European expansion began to rise up again, Pagan Gods were reborn into they're faithful worshippers while the World Leaders scramble to regain control, they stand in awe as the Superpowers are disarmed of all their nuclear weapons when the missiles shoot off but never detonate. Man changes, the powerful beings of Myth, faeries and trolls who layed in hybernation in the blood of their decendents begin to morph back into their true forms, much to the chagrin and hatred of superstitious yet cynical man.

In this chaos the Governments fell to pieces and in their place came the MegaCorps, who were the natural enemies of such a wild and free force. The last years were hard as these two forces, technology and magic, money and chaos slugged it out among each other in the open. It ended when evetually like most of the things in this World, magic conformed to currency, the MegaCorps saw an opportunity to expand into a new market and the disillussioned mages saw a chance to make some bread and so the World returned back to a bit of 'normality'.

The MegaCorps grew and replaced the old fallen communications network with the Matrix, technology once again began a steady advancement. Magic found it's place in this new fangled world, altough somewhat mistrusted by the general public, it's still in open use by adepts today. In fact the World kind of looks like a Medievil stroy, the great castles replaced by giant Skyscrapers devouring the sprawls below in shadow and in those shadows there are the heroes and mosters of this World....the Shadowrunners.

You are a Shadowrunner

You don't only work in the Shadows you thrive there

Though you are a pawn in a corporate game of chess

It's up to you to show them who really plays the game

_ _ _ _ _

Hola this is a little something something I threw together for an online chat game, of course thrown together is an understatement for all the planning I did. If you're not familiar with the shadowrun universe, don't worry I thought of you first, you will find a few important terms below, if you're not familiar with the shadowrun system don't worry this game will use good 'ol D20 (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html). D20 Shadowrun conversion (http://www.geocities.com/grinningkat/)

The first thing we need to do is decide when the hold the game, so please post all the days of the week you are available and the time you'll be available (in GMT), I'm looking for a 6 hour session per week but we'll see what's most comfortable for everyone.

Tuesday 18:00-23:00
Wednesday 12:00 -23:00
Thursday 17:00-24:00
Saturday 07:00-19:00

I know the chances that we can agree on a schedule is slim but just in case it doesn't happen I ask you to stick with us, if we don't play a chat game we'll play the campaign on the forum. It's still fun though not as much and it will move much slower. As for the chat program we will use, we have several to choose from, both Msn and Aim have dice rollers and I know a very reliable chat program made just for such games (not openrpg or webrpg I SAID RELIABLE) to which I obviously can't link you since that would be advertising, if we're lucky we might even play it on the forum's own chat program (though I heavily doubt it).

A few neccesary info on Shadowrun and New Orleans

These are just a few terms and pieces of information, you must know, there are many more terms out there (heck there are entire sites dedicated to the terms in shadowrun) but I don't like scaring players away ;). All you need to know is.

Shadowrunner: a mercenary, someone who does dirty work for money though that's not always the case, some shadowrunners are akin to renegade heroes, working behind the scenes to make the world a better place.

Shadowrun: a mission, usually involving something illegal

Matrix: Same as the movie (which stole the idea), it's a digital world with a startling similarity to our own, like our own internet mixed with unreal tournament and just as violent as the latter.

Decker: Someone with a cyberdeck, usually people put on a helmet like device to access the matrix but deckers have said equipment wired permanently to their brains, altough they still have to access the matrix by "jacking into" terminals and even certain electrical equipment.

Mr Johnson: the mysterious dude with the mission, usually a go between for a MegaCorp seeking to hire Shadowrunners.

Adept: magic user, ranging from Hermetic Mages (like Gandalf the Wizard), Shamans (Clerics like Catholic Priests and Voodoo medicine men) and physical adepts (think bruce lee mixed with magic)

Street Samurai: high powered, half-cybernetic, half-human killing machines usually with a code of honour.

The rest is pretty self explanatory (everyone here has a rough idea of what a Troll is), now a little background info on the City of New Orleans, note I did not get my info from a sourcebook marked “the shadows of New Orleans”(if such a book exists) this is my own setting so please no nagging me for not following a book I don’t have (we’re not all rich enough to buy sourcebooks or dishonest enough to download them) word for word.

A rich swamp surrounds the low technology sprawl of New Orleans, before the awakening it was almost all claimed by the City but through the powers of the squatter shamans that call it home, it eventually spread back across the town devouring sky reaching building like they were nothing. It’s expansion halted at the old inner city with it’s colonial buildings and gothic churches when the only remaining MegaCorp, Yagashi made a deal with the shamans to keep this ruined residential district intact, the Swamp tribes reluctantly agreed (in truth the swamp halted it’s expansion when faced with the old beauty of colonial New Orleans).

The old colonial houses were restored by the refugees who lost their homes to the swamp keeping their old world shell and filling their insides with the latest technology and despite the tension between the squatters and the city dwellers, the town prospered, cut off from the rest of the world only making contact through a brave few who dare thread the swamp. Religion is pretty big here, Voodoo shamans summon the spirits of their ancestors through ritual dance in the swamp and city while Chatolic Priests damn them for their pagan beliefs and Street Paladins fight demons in the night.

That’s all you need to know to create your character and his/her background, so now onto the character creation section...don’t worry not much reading left ;)

Here are the links to the D20 srd (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html) and D20 Shadowrun conversion (http://www.geocities.com/grinningkat/). Apart from the meta-humans listed in the conversion you can also play any of the d20 races listed in the D20 Srd, I will also look over any other suggestions for races.

New Totems

Crawdad Totem: +2 for combat, +2 conjuring for water spirits, -1 to health spells

Mosquito Totem: +2 to manipulation, +2 health (when affecting self), -1 to health spells (when affecting others), must never help another unless rewarded.

Priest: +4 to healing spells, +1 to conjuring good spirits, -2 to combat spells, must never willingly harm another or conjure an evil spirit....Priests can be actual priests or voodoo shamans who dedicate themselves to a catholic saint

Templates: If you’re new to d20 and honestly don’t know where to start with character creation, I have created a couple of characters myself so you can just pick one up and start playing.

Dwarven Rigger
Elvish Street Paladin
Human Street Samurai
Human Priest
Human Mosquito Shaman
Troll Decker
Orc Bouncer

Character Sheet: if you want a premade character, just pick one of the above and I’ll send you the character sheet, if you want to keep anything on this character sheet secret, be my guest but you still have to pm it to me.

Sound interesting, I'm game.

I have play a little bit of shadowrun long time ago... when it was still FAFAS's system.

I don't mind either forum based or chat based

I think I'll try the troll decker unless it is already taken.

You have any campaign specific info?

my email is aythati@yahoo.com.

Looks like the best time to fit our schedule would be sat(1600 and onward).

Welcome and thank you for joining, I was starting to lose hope. I've sent you the stats for the troll decker, all I need from is a name and if you like a background to round up the character, then post it here (you can withhold anything you don't wish shared).

I don't know what else I can share besides what I have already written :), the story will revolve around the conflict between the squaters and the townies with an overarching plot which I can't tell you about for obvious reasons ;).

Si, I guess I'll join. I've been in a DND game before, btu I'm not good with character creation or the D20 system, so you'll have to make me a character. I'll like a Human, Street Samurai.

Can't wait 'till it gets started.

Hey kaijin good of you to join.
now we have half a group!
I can answer some general D20 questions,
for any game specific stuff you have to ask angel.

Ok I've looked over the troll decker, a few questions angel.

points total is 74 right? the troll's stats add up to 76.
did you apply the +4 str, +5 con -3 dex, -4 int, -3 char? if you did that makes the troll's orginal int of 20 , I did not think it was possible to assign stats over 18 during char gen.

well either way I adjusted a few things for this typical atypical troll.

Race: Troll 26 years old.
Class: Decker
Name: Claude Von Wilheim

Descendent of German nobility that eventually immigrated to the united states, the Wilheim's where a family for intellectual pursuits, and is quite accomplished in the field of science and technology. The awakening hit the Wilheims hard, the dormant troll heritage, sprang to life and ruined the family, what little was left destroyed by paroind humans in the chaos following the awakening. Claude knew little of his parents, and was raised by loyal family retainer Gerald Tellermen. It was Gerald’s care that Claude maintains much of his noble upbringing. Upon Gerald’s death at the age of eighty five, Claude buried the old man and left his home for New Orleans to start his new life..

Short, scrawny, and weak for a troll, with dark blue hide and white luminescent eyes with ruby lens spectacles; Claude is hideous site even for a troll. Barely over nine ft, he wears a long grey overcoat, with matching pants and shirt fitted to him. Claude dislikes violence, and prefers to run than fight.

Motivation: Pursuit of Knowledge.

Name: Donovan
Age: 28
Race: Human
Class: Fighter (street samurai)

Bio: Donovan had once lived a normal life. He had parents, a brother and a sister, and a big house. Everything was perfect, his mom and dad were in a loving relationship. He and his brother had a great relationship, always playing with each other, and having fun making his sister's life a living hell.

Oh it was the perfect life, all day he and his brother would play, pick on his sister. And then at night, his parents would come home from work, his mom would cook and then the entire family would sit down and watch TV as they ate.

On his 14 birthday, his father got him and his brother swords. Not real ones, but fake ones made out of wood. He and his brother spent hours and even day training with each other, practicing different styles and even creating a few of their own. Soon training turned into competition, and competition turned into rivalry, and then... pure hatred. You couldn't even have the two eat a normal meal without the two getting into a fight. It was always with words, small threats, and each side not giving up until they were broken up.

It got to the points where their fighting made the entire family a living hell; there were no longer a loving mom and dad, but two drunks, who constantly fought. The sister an emotional wreck, always was staying in her room, searching for the best possible ways to escape from reality. One night, as the brothers fought, their father stood up, walked downstairs... and then shot himself. This was the straw that broke the camels back.

The mother and sister each blamed the two boys, both of them; being caught up in their own arrogance couldn't and wouldn't take the blame, but instead, put it to the other person. The fighting just grew worse and worse, until when he turned 18..

Upon his 18th birthday he had found out that his father was, and used to be a master swordsman, and over his carrier he had won many tournaments, and in one of them he had won a very rare and priceless Katana. When they both found out about this Katana, they each wanted to for themselves, and fought constantly over it.

Finally one day, they snapped, and the first punch was thrown. And in the end, it was Donovan who wounded on top of his brother, hands clenched around his throat, covered in blood. His brother's final and last gasping breath was used to say something... "Sorry"

After that, he took the sword and left the house. He trained himself to the point where his skill on the streets could not be matched, he fought in the dark alleys against others fascinated with swords just like him. Each one he fought he killed, then one day he fought an old Samurai, one that had lost faith and all hope just as he. Yet this Samurai beat him, and beat him with only one hand and no sword just the scabbard. The samurai took Donovan in, telling him that he could create a Samurai out of the teen.

And when he was 21, Donovan had learned everything about the way of the Samurai as his master and trainer had learned, but still, he wanted more. With the more knowledge he learned, the more he realized the limitations of his own, and how they weakened him. He asked his master if he could use machines to increase his abilities, but his master was very strict and had not allow his student to have any dependence on machines.

Ignoring his master's advice, Donovan went out to get just a slight machine modification... he was robbed, and ending up getting mugged by the loved ones of those who he had killed. In the fight he had lost many of his parts, a scientist had found him, and saved his life by adding on the metal parts. The two parted ways shortly after Donovan had woken up the two parted ways, and he made his way back to his master.

The master had been furious on his arrival, and threatened to ban him from ever stepping foot in his house again, if he didn't find a way to remove the machines from his body, he on the other hand, didn't want to listen to his master again, her had felt the power these machines gave him... and he loved it. No one would take it away from him, not even his master. And the two fought again, this time, it was the teacher who fell to his blade.

Now Donovan wonders around, searching for a way to make himself stronger, which is why he began to take up jobs. Making money and increasing skills... it was all he cared about now. The way of the sword was his life, he grew up by it, and he would die by it.

Description: Donovan stands a good 6 feet even; his long black hair hung down to the back of his neck, and was always kept in a loose pony tail. His eyes, or eye, were a dark green almost verging on the point of being black. There were no visible scars on his body, most of them had healed, or were hidden by something. His face was always twisted in reassuring smile, but that was only to hide a look of intense rage that only showed when he got very bored.

He wore nothing but black, some say it is the only way he can pay tribute to those he has killed, and would kill in the future, wearing the same colors as a Widow. Others say it is to show where his loyalties lay, with the shadows, and the dark lord that many say he obeys and listens to. No on truly knows why though, and no one probably will…
